PARAMESWARAN: SUCCESS IN TEXTILE EXPORT | |||||||
|
Though he had gone to Chennai way back in1950 with the avowed intention to learn Carnatic music, when his uncle there arranged a job for him that desire waned. And Parameswaran later worked for 17 years in a company selling lithographs to newspapers etc. But in 1974 he resigned from the company within one day’s notice. He had inferred that there was no growth potential in the company. In a few days he emplaned for US and came back with an export order for 3000 leather purses. However, he soon dropped that business considering the high risks in that field. He once again flew to US with samples of textiles. On the 1st day itself he could get an order for 30000m of cloth. He returned to Chennai by the next flight and organised the export. Since then he did not have to look back. The major part of his export is to the US and among his regular customers are British Airways, Luftansa and Ford. He buys materials from Kannur and Kozhikode. “Malabar produces the No.1 items in India”, he says. If earlier US companies used to send designers to Chennai, now things are finalized by email. Prameswaran’s wife is Parvathi and they have 2 daughters. While elder one Prema is in US with her husband, Lakshmi assists her father in business at Chennai. Although he could not pursue the study of Carnatic music, not a day passes without his listening to Carnatic music. “One must dedicate oneself to the work one is doing. Success is sure to come to such a person,” he emphasizes.
