Without the backing of any advertisement campaign, merely by word-of-mouth publicity of satisfied customers, Anns House of Sweets, Pala, has become a preferred brand even in overseas countries.

What started as a small venture in a little shop 20 years ago, has today 7 branches and 3 franchisees in Kerala.  The favourite Anns Cake, which many Non Resident Keralites do not forget to enjoy while in Kerala, is now sold even in US markets.  The women behind these achievements is Annamma Joseph Kettukappally, who started the venture without the backing of any business tradition or technical expertise.

Although her husband’s encouragement was always there, he could not spare much time to help her in the business.  Yet, she was able to successfully face all problems including labour unrest that resulted in closure of business for 5 months.

It was the cake that she prepared for her daughter’s birthday that prompted her husband to look at the commercial possibilities of her culinary ability.  Although many eyebrows were raised when a housewife from the traditionally well off Kettukappally family started a bakery business, the success of her products even in foreign markets, is a proud achievement for Kerala.

“The care taken to ensure the quality of each product, the uniqueness of taste, spotless cleanliness and hard work are the secrets of Anns’ success,” says Annamma, who is a graduate in music.

Ex-Muncipal Chairman of Pala, Thomas Kettukappally is her husband.  Aparna, Anoop and Anil are her children.
