KHADAR THERUVATH: FROM AN EMPLOYEE TO A NON-RESIDENT BUSINESSMAN | ||||||

Starting his career as an employee of Gwalior Rayons, Mavoor, Kozhikode, Khadar Theruvath has emerged as a noted non-resident Keralite businessman. While his presence in Dubai is as the chairman of Express Group, the largest corporate in printing, in India, he is the Chairman of the Pointec Pens, based in Bangalore. If it was Khadar who brought the modern trends in printing to Dubai, in India, he was the first to experiment with ‘yellow pages’. He began his non-resident life in 1970 with the establishment of an electronic unit, Telstar in Dubai. In 1986, he brought out the yellow pages in Dubai and based on that experience brought out 2 similar volumes in India. Later he withdrew from this field. In the meanwhile, in 1980 itself, he had started the Express Printers in Dubai. Since 1986, they are the publishers of all the commercial directories, industrial directories and house magazines of UAE chambers of commerce. More than 500 employees work here alone. 95% of the pens manufactured at Pointec, Bangalore is exported to US and UK. The annual export is 15 crore pens. Besides business field, Khadar is well known as a connoisseur of music and cinema. He was the producer of M.T.Vasudevan Nair’s ‘Vilkanundu Swapnangal’. Khadar is a director of Kerala Film Development Corporation, Travncore-Cochin Chemicals and Kerala State Industrial Development Corporation among others. He is also the director of the Kozhikode-based Malabar Hotel Management and Catering Promotion Trust. Even while being a catalyst in the social, commercial, culture and sports domains, he makes it a point to be as anonymous as possible.
