For her effort to the help women suffering from domestic violence, Liji J.Pullappally has won the Sunshine Peace Award, given to social workers of USA. The US $ 10000 award is instituted by the Sunshine Lady Foundation, which was established in 1996.
Liji, an advocate, is an activist of the Chicago based organization, ‘Apna Ghar’ whose domain of activity is the women of South Asia. Since her student days she was associated with the organization and is now on its director board.
In addition, she is the co-director of the organization ‘Life Span’, which provides legal aid to women in distress.
She is the daughter of Jose Pullappally, who was a correspondent of ‘Kerala Bhushanam’.
