The young man of 23 who reached Chennai after 3 years of apprenticeship in sundry business at Mumbai had an aim: to obtain a licence for importing goods.  And on February 18, 1988 after much struggle he obtained it.  That was the humble beginning of the Sabari Group and the business baptism of Sasikumar, the son of a farmer from Puthenveettil, Cherplassery, Palakkad.

After 15 years, the Group has 10 branches in major towns of South India with an employee base of 600 and an annual turnover of Rs.200 crores.  Starting with seafood, they expanded to steel imports and are today a major player in the field in South India.  In 1996 the Sabari Charitable Trust was established for contributions to the fields of education and social work.  His 2 brothers Sunil Kumar and Sreekumar as well as sister Sobhana became trustees of the Group.  The name Sabari indicates the strong faith of S.K.Brothers in Lord Ayyappa.  Sunil Kumar visits Sabarimala almost every month and is a constant presence during mandala period.

The Group entered the education field by adopting the A.U.P.School, Kalluvazhi, Palakkad.  In 2000 they adopted the 1500-student strong Vilayam Chathannur A.U.P.School, Kuzhalmandam, Palakkad. Here all the students are provided free uniform, conveyance, food and books. Later the Sabari Charitable Trust took over the administration of Cherplassery Education Trust and did a Rs.60-lakhs modernization of the English Medium Central School, Cherplassery.

Sasikumar has a master plan to start a high tech hospital, new residential schools and an old age home at Cherplassery.
