A device that can make the bypass surgery on a beating heart more efficient and less costly has been developed by cardiologist Dr.Murali P. Vettath.  His anaestemodic obuturator can do away with clamping of the main artery during the surgery and can thus prevent possible complications in the brain that may result otherwise.  Since the device is not a use and throw away one, it can help in reducing the cost of surgery.

He has presented a paper on the device at the international meet of cardio-thoracic technologists held at Florida, USA during March 19-23, 2003.  The expert panel at the meet has accepted the efficacy of the device and Dr.Murali is now in the process of patenting the invention.

Dr.Murali has earlier worked in Adelaide and Sydney in Australia.  He is at present the head of cardiology at MIMS, Kozhikode.
