7-YEAR-OLD VENKATESH’S DEBUT PERFORMANCE IN KATHAKALI | ||||||
|
Even as he played the role of Sathrugnan in the debut performance in Kathakali, 7-year-old Venkatesh displayed no trace of tension or anxiety. Nor did he display any emotion later on at the Mahadeva Temple, Kazhakkoottam to suggest that he considered his feat a unique one. Student of 2nd standard in Jyothi Nilayam School, Kazhakkoottam, Venkatesh developed a liking for Kathakali from his father Venugopal, a deed writer. At the age of 5 he started practicing under Kalamandalam Balasubrahmanyam. And the guru certifies to the young disciple’s ability to assimilate mudras and emotions. He has not much interest in other arts. Venkatesh had earlier appeared in a movie directed by William Long, a cameraman of National Geography channel. His mother is Bindu and younger sister Athira.
