A family of driving school gurus. 55-year-old Sumathi Amma, her 3 sons and their wives plus her one daughter and her husband have chosen to be driving school teachers professionally. So much so that 2 of the brothers, Prasad and Babu declined to accept government jobs even when they were selected for it.
It all started with Prasad picking up the urge to drive from his father, Kunjachan, an autorickshaw driver. After learning driving, he decided to start a driving school. He bought a second hand car and started giving training at the ‘Prasad Driving School’. Following him the other brothers Babu and Pradeep too learned driving. When the brothers used to park the car in front of the house, their mother Sumathi Amma used to try her hand at driving. Slowly she too became an expert driver. And following her the lone sister Latha too learned the art.
When the 3 brothers married, they first taught their wives the family profession, after which the ladies too became gurus in their own right. In course of time, Latha married and together with her husband Subhash started the Sethu Motor Driving School.
The distinction of Prasad Driving School is that lady instructors train lady learners. And may be because of that, there are a good number of women learners in the school.
When the whole family is involved in driving, will there be problem due to overtaking?
The ‘brake’ is for that, says Sumathi Amma confidently!
