34 years ago when K.Velayudhan, Anangadi, Kadalundi started a small scale ayurveda pharmacy, he wouldn’t have thought that one day it would become an ayurvedic medicine manufacturing unit with turnover in crores. Yet that is the story of Santhosh Pharmacy.
Velayudhan started the venture after studying under Chandukkutty Vaidyar of Kadalundi. In the beginning itself he could make a mark for himself with the treatment of a foot disease. And armed with the confidence of that success, he started a manufacturing unit for medicines in 1976.
As the relieved patients spread the news by word of mouth, the demand for medicines manufactured by Santhosh Pharmacy went on increasing. His product for preventing hair loss and removal of dandruff had a good appeal in the market.
The modern manufacturing plant with 25 employees produces around 300 medicines. In 2002 the company obtained the Good Manufacturing Practice award instituted by the Government of India to improve the quality of ayurvedic medicines.
His wife is Vanaja. Following his footsteps, his eldest son Dr.Vijoy is an ayurvedic doctor. His daughter Vijina is a student of ayurveda at Coimbatore, while the youngest daughter Jeemol is a school student in Ooty.
Keeping the quality of the products on top of his mind, Velayudhan goes on with the quest for excellence.
