P.K.RAVI: 1ST MACHINE IN INDIA TO THRESH PEPPER | ||||||
|
A threshing machine that can separate the seeds of pepper from the stalk has been developed by P.K.Ravi of Murikkasseri, Idukki. This machine, certified by the Spices Board as the first of its kind in India, can be run both electrically and manually. For every farmer who buys this machine, the Board provides Rs.5000 as subsidy. ‘Aurora’, as the machine has been christened, can thresh 600 kg of pepper per hour. Though the processing removes 90% of the seeds from the stalk, it does not damage the skin of the ripe pepper. The machine which can be run with 1 HP or ½ HP motor, has provision to remove the stalk thus separated. 2 models of the machine are available in the market. While the bigger one can thresh 100 kg at a time, the smaller one is capable of processing 50 kg. By changing the leaf of the machine, it can be used for threshing paddy also. Ravi, who developed the machine, runs a fabrication unit, ‘Our Engineering Industries’ at Murikkasseri. The pepper threshing
