The 7th standard students of Government U.P.School, Kasargod once asked their favourite teacher whether he too could get a promotion to the next class like them.  Their desire was simple: they wanted their teacher G.B.Vatsalan to continue in their new school also, so that their twice-a-week meetings on literature and reading would continue there also!

Their teacher, by his effort to kindle the joy of reading in the young minds, was leading them to the vistas of the world.  Drawing inspiration from the ‘Vayanakkoottam’, the students read and wrote extensively and even bought books using the money they had deposited in the ‘Sanchayika’ account.  Cleaning the school library was another self-motivated act of theirs.

And as the twice-a-week gatherings in the school became better known, it was decided to bring the benefit of the session to more students.  Accordingly, on April 2, a gathering of like-minded students of other schools was held at the Municipal Reference Library Hall, Kasargod.  The owner of Mayura Art Press/Books, Narendran agreed to bring out a publication titled ‘Vayanakkoottam’ for the students.  The Municipality too rose to the occasion and agreed to include the same as a part of the Government scheme on ‘Vidyarangam Kala Sahitya Vedi’.

Thus the seeds that one committed teacher had planted in a few young minds was beginning to sprout and grow big.
