DR.GEORGE CLEETUS: AGNI AWARD FOR CONTRIBUTION TO TECHNOLOGY | ||||||

Noted scientist Dr.George Cleetus, who retired recently as director of Electronic and Radar Development Establishment, has been selected for the Agni award instituted by the Defence Research Development Organisation (DRDO). The award, which includes a cash prize of Rs. 2 lakhs and a citation will be presented by the Prime Minister. Dr.Cleetus, who belongs to Kundara, Kollam is the son of George Markus and Lisa Marcus. He came to the research field after obtaining his M.Sc from University College, Thiruvananthapuram, M.Tech in Electronics and Communication from IIT, Kharagpur and Ph.D in Computer Science from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He began his career as a Scientific Assistant at the Instrument Research and Development Establishment, Dehra Dun. He retired after 33 years of service. In between, for 2 years, he served at the Data General School, USA. In 1985 he had won the Scientist Of The Year award given by the Central Government and in 1995 the Om Prakash Basin award for excellence in the field of technology.
