Even some L.P.School students are taller than him, but still B.K.Sen, teacher in Govt.U.P.School, Koliyakkode is able to command the respect of all his students. The 116 cm tall teacher is now unable to move about without the support of an assistant and yet when it comes his performance in the class, he is an instant hit with the students.
By employing stories, poems and songs, he is able to enliven the class. Sen, who has won many prizes for monoact and mimicry, employs the variation in sound to good effect to make the lecture session more appealing.
Even though physically challenged, the teacher’s day is quite hectic. In the school, in addition to academic duties, he leads the activities of the Gandhi Darsan. After school hours, he is into social service centred around ‘Sabarmathi’. In 2001 he had won the award for the best Gandhi Darsan worker.
In addition he is active in students’ theatre group and helps them in learning the art of imitation and acting. Sen, who is the son of teacher couple Brahmanandan and Kamala Bai, has composed many patriotic songs also. Lekha is his wife.
