9-YEAR-OLD ABHIMANYU’S FIRST BOOK OF STORIES |
||||||||
|
The
teacher asked the 1st standard students what they wished to
become in life.
Many replied: engineers, doctors etc.
But one boy confidently replied: I want to become a writer like my
father. That
5-year-old Abhimanyu is now a 9-year-old author of a book of
stories. His stories reflect the observations of the young author: mundane
tending to the sublime.
Abimanyu is the son of M.N.Vinayakumar, an employee of Lotteries
Department and Sumathi, an employee of Telegraph Office, Thrissur.
A
few years back, Manorama decided to choose the best stories from those
below the age of 15.
The jury consisting of renowned writers, C.Radhakrishnan, Punathil
Kunjabdullah and D.Vinayachandran chose Abhimanyu’s ‘Oru Poovu’ as
one of the best 14 stories.
The jury compared the story of the 2nd standard student
to the blossoming of a bud: as natural and as poetic; a story that
stretches from its end to the infinity. Story
writing isn’t his only interest.
Even as a tiny tot, Abhimanyu was prepared to forgo sleep to watch
the Kathakali artists at temple festivals.
He would observe with patience the artists removing their make up
after performance.
As
a member of the Chettur Ranga Chetana Theatre Troup, he has acted in
dramas performed at various places in Kerala and outside.
Last year he was the editor of the children’s newspaper, ‘Mayilpeeli’,
published by the District Literary Forum, Thrissur.
