As psychology professor of M.G.College, Thiruvananthapuram, Dr.Adithi had to often peep into tragedies in family situation. Most of the stories had a common thread: lack of planning for the life journey. Her desire to do something about it finally resulted in the association, FOCUS, Forum for Creative and Unique Services.
After long discussions with eminent persons in the field of psychology, colleages, students, social activists and doctors, she came to the essence of the mission: to make the society capable of lofty dreams. Towards this aim, FOCUS started functioning in 1999 with a group of teachers and former students as the team.
Many difficulties are brought to the forum: lack of harmony at home, backwardness in studies, ignorance about sexual life, abuse of alcohol and drugs etc.
Pre-marital counseling is also arranged here. Participants can ask any question. If they are reticent, they could write down the question.
The organization is creating awareness against smoking, drinking and drug abuse. Another area where they are active is in environmental protection.
FOCUS works as 4 wings: Art, Stem, Care and Crust. While Art attempts to equip youngsters with confidence to manage marital life, Stem reminds the role of families in shaping good students. Concentration techniques and memory-retaining methods are taught here. Care attempts to lead the youngsters in a psychological way and Crust provides aid for education.
