Bharathambika U.P.School, Pottamplavu, Kannur, does not have a physical education teacher or a playground. The peon of the school, Thomas, compensates for both.
Thomas, who has the urge to produce champions, uses his plot of land for training the students in sports. If the school were non-entities even at district level 8 years ago before Thomas joined it, now they are able to shine in district and state level championships.
Last year, his ward Jimy won the 1st prize in 400 m race at the state school sports meet.
