Young researcher Shan Sasidharan’s efforts to develop herbal remedies against asthma and diabetes have received a fillip with the multinational Pfizer Laboratories supporting his work.  The pharmaceutical company and Waterford Country School have jointly gifted him the Ultra System Microscope useful for  his research work.

Shan, a 3rd year student of B.Pharm at J.S.S.College of Pharmacy, Ooty, has already developed few products in his own lab with limited resources.  Earlier he was a student of D.Pharm at Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram but the institution was unable to appreciate his work.  Although he was considered for the international young scientist award at the recent New York meet, lack of support from sponsoring agencies prevented him from putting up a good performance.

Though few other multinational drug companies turned down his request for assistance, Pfizer appreciated his work.  Already they have developed a few drugs based on his research.  He has received assistance from Waterford Country School, which too encourages young scientists.

Shan is the son of V.Sasidharan and Usha, Usha Mandiram, Attupuram.  He said he is trying to develop holistic drugs without side effects using the instrument that has been gifted to him.
