|
R.M.Ramseena, who lost her left leg in the brave attempt to save 3-year-old Risana from a speeding vehicle, has won the State’s first Geetha Chopra award for bravery from the President. 10-year-old Ramseena was playing with 2 others in the front yard of her aunt’s house at Aruvikkara when the incident happened. As a maverick vehicle of a driving school came menacingly towards the children, she gambled with life to save her younger sister. In the bargain the car tyre ran over her left leg. Medical science could not give her back the damaged leg. It was amputated below the knee and an artificial leg provided in its place. Her act of courage and presence of mind were first toasted at the Asianet Bravery award. In addition, she was honoured by many schools and organizations. Ramseena is the 2nd among the 3 children of Maheen and Ramla, Kuttichal, Kattakkada, Thiruvananthapuram. Undaunted by the set back in life, she continues to be in the forefront in many activities. She is practicing violin and has recently won a prize in the folk dance competition held in her school.
