Graduate in English literature and later, a final year student of Law, Sibi Joseph of Venappana, Kozhikode dropped out of Law College, not because of any philosophical dilemma.  His reason was more down to earth: to cultivate his childhood love of flora.  And what the words could not provide, his dear plants are providing for him, be it professional satisfaction or a means of livelihood.

With the previous experience of assisting a relative in the plant nursery, Sibi started a small scale nursery on his own.  But his aim was clear: to bring the customers to his nursery by offering them a wide variety of plants and flowers.

His search in this direction led him to the Hawai hibiscus, the overseas variety that produces large flowers.

The mother plants obtained from a source in Pune are grafted and developed by him.  His 368-variety collection has the customers lining up in front of his shop opposite the moffussil bus stand in Kozhikode.  Though now thousands of saplings are developed everyday, the customers often have to wait after booking their order.  In addition to Kozhikode, he has nursery or farm at Thirussur, Wayanad, Mangalore and Goa.

Another item that has given fillip to his nursery is the flowering cactus.  Sibi has expertise in gardening and turfing also.
