Even while studying Malayalam-medium text books in the palm leaf-thatched hut that was her home, Jayasree dreamt of becoming a doctor.  And when she competed against more than 5 lakh students and secured the 3rd rank in SSLC in the State, she had come closer to her ambition.  Today as a doctor at the Cooperative Hospital, Quilandy and a consultant at the Usha School of Athletics, Quilandy, she has certainly achieved her goal.

Jayasree’s father Ramachandran Nair, Kozha Venganam,  Kuravilangad was particular that his children should study, though the income from his small tea shop wasn’t sufficient to meet the purpose.  However, from 4th standard till she completed her M.B.B.S, she was a recipient of many scholarships including the National Merit Scholarship and thus could self-finance part of her education.

In the entrance examination for Medicine, she first got admission in Ayurveda.  Even while studying at the Ayurveda Hospital, Thrippunithura, she appeared for the entrance exam again and secured a seat for MBBS.

The people of the locality and the Housing Board came together to gift a new house for the brilliant student.  Today her parents live in this house, ‘Panchami’ with their other children. She and her husband, Advocate P.T.Sreenivasan live in a rented house at Quilandy with their 2˝-year-old daughter Malavika.

Hardwork can surmount all obstacles and reach even the farthest destination, feels Jayasree.  She has 2 more ambitions: to obtain a post-graduate degree and to earn a name as good doctor.  Her patients would even now certify to the second goal.
