ALEXANDER: OWNER OF SWISS WATCH COMPANY | ||||||
|
While doing his B.A at Bombay University, C.C.Alexander had never thought that he would one day become the owner of a watch making company in Switzerland. It was only after obtaining his M.B.A by correspondence from Pennsylvania University that he started thinking of business at all. After studies, he joined as marketing executive in the well known Kiran Chand Taper Group. As an enterprising employee he soon came into contact with the top management. It was during this time that he started nurturing the ambition to build his own business organization. He resigned the job in India and joined as manager in a watch distributing company in Dubai. It was during this time that watches came to have a prominent place in his scheme of things. Before long he started his own distribution company, Al Muquasim, in 1993. And when the Chancellor Watches, Switzerland was going through a financial crisis, he stepped in with the help of banks to own the outfit. Chancellor Watches has its production unit in Switzerland. In the factory with a capacity to produce 3500 watches per day, 268 employees work. His watches, brought out in 300 models, are sold in 28 countries. He is the only Indian in the 544-member ‘Federation of Swiss Watch Industry’. 41-year-old Alexander attributes his success to hardwork, luck and the Grace of God. With his time divided between Abu Dhabi and Switzerland, Alexander spends a busy life. His wife Ancy is an employee in the Ministry of Health at Abu Dhabi and his 3 children, Angela, Anila and Albert are in school.
