Catching naughty students indulging in mischiefs may be something he does everyday.  But catching professional thieves is his forte.  Ismail, a teacher in I.T.School, Kasaragod who resides at Pathari House, Puthanangadi, Angadipuram, Malappuram, tracks thieves.  He has been instrumental in the arrest and conviction of culprits in 40 theft cases so far.

Ismail’s pursuit of thieves began when he was a college student.  Once a thief sneaked into the Ladies Hostel.  As the inmates screamed, Ismail too got up from his place of residence and ran after the thief.  Without thinking about the pros and cons he caught hold of the thief who happened to be a criminal wanted by the police.

Once at Kasaragod Railway Station he caught a thief who attempted to run away after snatching a 5-sovereign gold chain of a lady and stabbing a pursuing policeman.  He handed over the chain to the lady and the thief to the Circle Inspector.

However, the CI refused to register a case and left off the thief.  This prompted Ismail to petition the Superintendent of Police.  Based on SP’s order the thief was apprehended and Ismail received an award and citation from the SP.  The Merchants’ Association too honoured him with a public reception and a cash award of Rs.10,000.

Ismail apparently can recognize thieves by their body language.
