STUDENT WITH NO PLACE TO KEEP HER GOLD MEDALS FROM ATHLETICS

K.V.Rajimol, Mangathotti, Rajakkad, Idukki

With no proper walls to hang the gold medals won by her in athletics, K.V.Rajimol lives in a thatched hut.  Her house at Mangathotti, Rajakkad, Idukki is a leaky and insecure hut where she hides the medals in an iron trunk kept under the cot.

Rajimol is a student of 10th standard in N.R.C.T. Sree Narayana Vilasom Higher Secondary School, Rajakkat.  She had won gold medal in National School Meets in 1999 and 2001.  Besides she has set records in 1500m and 800m in State Schools Meet.

She has to walk 7km to go to the school everyday.  It is with the help of Vijayan and Leela, Physical Education teachers at school that she is able to progress in the track.

Her father Vijayan is a daily labourer.  Since even daily job is hard to come by, he is finding it difficult to manage the household.  Yet he tries his best to provide whatever he can to bring up his daughter.

The family is finding it difficult to provide nourishing food to the budding athlete or take her to the venue of competitions.  It is the financial support from the school that keeps her going.
