From Monday to Saturday Assistant Sub Inspector Yohannan wears police uniform.  And on Sunday he wears the cassock of a priest and conducts mass at Marthasmuni Church, Peroor.

For 52-year-old M.V.Yohannan, Chemmikkad, Maradi, Muvattupuzha East, both the roles are equally appealing.  Most of his colleagues call him ‘father’.  Even superior officers prefer that salutation.

Yohannan became a priest after joining Police Department in 1970.  He felt a void in his heart during that time and recognized that priesthood was the way to fill that void.  In 1974 he was initiated into the process of becoming a priest.

Later he took sabbatical for 4 years to study at the seminary.

His early desire was to accept priesthood after retirement from service.  Later he changed that opinion based on advice from an elder.  And thus he became a priest even while in service.  In his case the church waived the restriction that a priest should always wear his vestments.

He considers it a grace of God that on te same day he was elevated to priesthood, he was promoted as ASI.  His service in the churches at Adimali and Santhanpara did not in any way affect his service in the Department.  For a long time he was in the Special Brach of the Department.  And now he is working at Ettumanoor.

His wife is Mariakkutty - and children, Varghese and Eldo.
