His painting was featured as cover for a book of poems, ‘Thakkida Tharikida’ by Muthalapuram Mohan Das partly because it was a children’s book.  But the same book cover won the Bhima Memorial Children’s Literature award by competing against adults certainly because of its intrinsic worth.

6-year-old R.Narayanan, Elavoor Matom, Kallissery, Kottayam, is a budding artist who is at ease with water colours, crayons and pen.  Living near the bank of river Pamba, he has developed a special liking for snake boats.  He has kept his numerous works in folders.  A good number of them are based on snake boats.  His second liking is for elephants.

His father N.Rajesh Kumar is Publications Manager at D.C.Books, Kottayam while his mother is S.Sandhya.  His grandfather is the famous linguist and author E.P.Narayana Bhattathiri.

Udaya Kumar did the book-cover design based on his painting.  The award was for both of them.
