Sijoy, a
product of Nettur Technical Training Foundation with a few years of
industrial experience,
returned to Kerala from Gulf in 2005 with the intention to start a
business of
his own. In his neighbourhood, he
noticed many coconut vendors, struggling with manual labour to remove
husk from
the nut. The innovator in him wanted a
solution to this.
10 years of
research later, he has developed a coconut peeling machine that can
dehusk a
coconut in 40 seconds. Besides saving in
time, the machine ensures attractive presentation, a winning
proposition in these
times.
After the
machine removes the husk, the product is given a stable flat bottom and
top for
easy transportation and storage. End
users have to use a sharp knife to cut open the top.
He is modifying his machine, for which he got a patent in 2017, to commercial scale. His Kochoos Industries is one of the three top start up agri-preneurship firms selected by the Kerala Agricultural University recently. It also won a Rs. 25 lakhs grant from the Central Government.
