It was not as a soothing gesture that Ranjith at first recognized the intervention of the Divine in his life…

In his childhood, he had been involved in an accident with an autorickshaw crushing his chest.  As he laid on the operation table at Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, there arose the need for about 9 bottles of blood.  All his immediate relatives were suffering from diabetes and could not come to his aid.  It was with difficulty that they could gather 8 to 9 bottles of blood required for him.

There and then Renjith decided that if his life must have a purpose it must be to bring together willing blood donors and those desperately needing it.  Today, after 10 years of service in this field, he has been instrumental in matching the need and willingness of about 15000 blood donations.  These include commoners and high profile individuals like film actor Jagathi Sreekumar.

Round the clock his mobile phone brings urgent needs to his attention.  And he has his associates at many places to fulfill the need.

Strangely, Ranjith does not see the faces of those who come to his aid.  Or it would be more accurate to say that he has only a hazy picture of those who come in front of him.  For his vision is imperfect.  At night, the power of sight completely deserts him.  He tried Ayurvedic treatment but had to discontinue it due to high cost.

In 2012 he was chosen for the Indian Blood Bank.com award.

His wife Ponnu had once approached him for blood to treat her mother but had later become his partner in life.  Though he has no job, no money even for treatment and no house, he is not disheartened.  “I have faith that He will send somebody to help me,” he says.

True to his faith, the expenses in connection with his wife’s delivery had been fully met by Dr.Aparna of Devi Hospital, Thrippunithura.
