He does not even have primary school education.  Added to that, his limbs are dysfunctional due to polio.  But such handicaps haven’t prevented Johnson of Electro-Digital Industries, Peruvannamoozhi, Kozhikode from thinking ahead of his time and doing things accordingly.

With the help of 5 workers, he has been producing LED bulbs in his shop.  The LED is imported from France.  While CFL lamps have the advantages of saving on global warming when compared to incandescent bulbs, the LED bulbs are even better than CFL in terms of energy consumption.  If a CFL lamp requires 15 Watts energy, a comparable LED bulb requires just about 0.1 to 3 Watts only, according to him.

Although bereft of formal schooling, he has been a self-taught electronic enthusiast for the past 18 years.  And this has enabled him to develop the LED bulb.

His grievance is that though LED is a better option than CFL for lighting purposes, the Government is not coming forward to encourage his effort.  Once he had met the Minister for Electricity but nothing came out of that.

I.Thomas, Headmaster of a local school who attended the Press Conference along with him, has testified to the saving in electricity bill due to the use of LED bulbs.
