46-year-old Sukumaran has carved a niche for himself in making percussion instruments.  An accomplished craftsman who started the job at the age of 12, he has been employing an innovative binding christened by him as ‘Ringmut’ to make his drums which have a demand even  among those from foreign countries.

A native of Pokkunni at Vadavannur, Palakkad, he has been on the move since a long time.  After working in Bangalore, Mysore and Mangalore, he is now settled at Kozhikode and is running a musical instrument manufacturing unit, ‘Kalaivani’ there.

The instruments made by him using the skin of goats have been providing purity of sound.  There is a good demand for his product even among the recording and stage artistes.

His wife and children are always there to help him in the process.
