He has studied only up to primary level and drives an autorickshaw for a living, but maintains mathematics as his passion.  K.V.Asokan of Kodakkad Village, Kasaragod runs a Ganith Mathematics Academy at Kalikkadavu where his students include even teachers.

Two teams from Karivellur Higher Secondary School, Pilicode, trained by him won first and second positions in the State-level maths festival conducted by Education Department this year.  And in recognition of his abilities, he has recently been appointed by Sarva Siksha Abhyan (SSA) as the director of the state-level mathematics camp at AUP School, Pothavoor, near Cheemeni.  Besides, he will be in charge of the forthcoming maths camp at Lower Primary School, Cheriyakkara on April 18.

What he lacks in formal schooling, he makes up by interacting with experts and teachers and reading books.  His home is a veritable maths laboratory where he makes maths instruments for students.  And as a self-taught maths lover, he is keen to appreciate the need to simplify the teaching of mathematics and make it student-friendly.  A simplified calendar and modernized clocks are few of the ideas he has developed towards that end.
