Interactive and activity-oriented  - the new mode of teaching and learning in schools had a votary in Sreeharshan long before the scheme had been institutionalized.  This teacher of 25 years from Nambrathukara UP School had been experimenting with such concepts since 1985.

‘Oushadheeyam’ to introduce young minds to herbal cultivation, manuscript magazines, exhibitions to highlight the development of Malayalam language and art etc organized with large student participation has been the brainchild of this teacher.  If the new scheme of learning gives importance to residential camps, his school had been organizing such innovations atleast 2 decades ago.

45-year-old Sreeharshan had been active in the cultural and literary circle. Later he quit that to devote full time to teaching and inspiring his students.  A writer in his own right, he has published numerous short stories, travelogues, articles, interviews and features.

For this innovative teacher, teaching is the be-all and end-all of his life.  His evenings at home are devoted to preparing for school work.  In the midst of these occupations he has had no time for married life.  Both his parents - M.P.Karunakaran Kidavu and Madhavi Amma – were teachers.  Although they are saddened by the bachelor status of their son, they are indeed proud that he has dedicated himself to the noble art of teaching
