Dr.Jacob Eapen from Kuravankonam, Thiruvananthapuram is a popular pediatrician in Alamida county health service.  Not without reason, for he works for 70 hours a week, including on Sundays and provides treatment to even those not covered by insurance.  Not surprising therefore that he has been voted to the director board of the Washington Hospital Healthcare district, Freemonde.

An alumnus of the Medical College, Thiruvananthapuram, Dr.Eapen later obtained his post graduation in paediatrics from Ludhiana, Punjab.  He worked for sometime in Nigeria and Tanzania before going to US in 1984.

After obtaining his M.Ph in General Health from Berkeley University, he did his pediatrics residency at Stanford University.  When Stanford University celebrated the 40th year of its Paulo Alto campus, it honoured 40 doctors from amongst 9000 old students.  Dr.Eapen was one of them.  Perhaps it was a fitting tribute to the doctor of the poor.

He was the first Asian to be the advisor to the UN High Commission for Refugees in Philippines.  He did a stint at TB hospital at Pulayanarkotta, Thiruvananthapuram for a year.  His simplified method for testing the phlegm of children had won acceptance.
