Manoharan’s Gokulam dairy farm makes use of many wastes to produce 800 litres of milk a day that he markets directly to the doorsteps of users in Thrissur.  Using the waste from beer factory, he manufactures feed for cows; the waste from his own goat and pig farms end up as manure for coconut and vegetables; the biogas plant adjacent to the pig farm provides the fuel for all his cooking needs and the waste that is bought from the Saktan Thampuram market is used to prepare vermi-compost.

These complementary components form the green world of Manoharan.  In fact he dreams of producing organic milk just like organic vegetables in his farm.

After 15 years of service in the Gulf, Manoharan wanted to start some venture near his home. With technical advice of NGO named PDDP and Dr.Pushkaran of Veterinary College as well as the financial support of a partner from the Gulf, he decided to invest in dairy farm.  Their advice to him: be a student first and then become an entrepreneur.

He followed the advice to the core and attended many training programmes and learned the nuances of the trade for one year.  Then with 20 cows he started his venture that has now expanded into the 120 cow farm.

He has himself designed the low-cost, self-filling tanks used to serve drinking water to the cows in the shed.  According to him, many dairy farm operators do not realize the importance of providing adequate water to the cows.

His next aim is to obtain organic certificate for his products.  As part of popularization of Gokulam products, he has opened a website too.
