The fabric produced from the single loom of Sukumara Panikkar of Balaramapuram, Thiruvananthapuram was marketed in the nearby areas by his 4th son Suseelan.  The young man’s enthusiasm and efficiency saw the sales increase steadily.  More looms had to be added to meet the demand.

25 years later, Suseelan is the owner of more than 2000 looms giving employment to 600 plus weavers.  And his ‘Kasavukada’ brand of textiles is sold through a chain of 7 sales outlets throughout Kerala.

After 10 years of supplying textiles as headload to shops in Ernakulam, Alappuzha and Thrissur, he was able to start a shop of his own in Ernakulam in 1990.  Slowly new shops came up at Kozhikode, Kottayam, Thalassery etc.

He attributes the success of the venture to the strict adherence to quality.  “We weave many fabrics which cannot be weaved in a mechanized loom.”  Although power loom may produce textiles cheaper, he has no plan to switch over from handloom.
