“Be it in business or in life, to succeed one needs not only hardwork and confidence but also the Grace of Almightly,” says Hamsa Haji, Managing Director of Amber Hosiery Mills, Thirupur, based on his own experience.

Hamsa, who dropped out of school after 9th standard, started a small scale baniyan factory with Rs.3500 given by his father.  Though he worked hard with confidence, the company went into the red and had to be closed down after 7 years in 1967.  That was as far as his human effort could achieve.

The Unseen Intervention expressed itself as the desire of his mother to get him married.  Reluctantly he agreed, but asked his wife Khadija to return the dowry as a pauper like him did not deserve it.  However, she refused.

When his bosom from approached him for a loan of Rs.5000, Hamsa did not think twice.  He pawned his wife’s gold ornaments without her knowledge and helped his friend.  Today, Ramaswami is also a leading businessman of Thirupur.

In order to earn a living, Hamsa joined as a worker in a baniyan manufacturing company.  Here the intervention of his friend Basha Bhai, set the future course of his career.  Basha Bhai loaned him the yarn to start his own business.  Besides, he made similar credit arrangements with other merchants.  Thus with faith in the Lord as his rudder, Hamsa started Amber Hosiery in 1971.

A success over the years, its products are marketed in South India, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Orissa and is exported to Gulf countries also.  With hundreds of workers and many large scale manufacturing units, the Mill concentrates on producing quality goods for the market.

And thus with the warp and weft of failure and success, the Great Weaver continues to weave Hamsa Haji's tale.

He has been to Mecca twice.
