A few months ago, 15-year-old Neethu had picked up a packet lying on the road as she was proceeding to the school one morning. To her surprise, she found that it contained jewellery. Without any hesitation she had handed it over to the headmaster of her school. And during the school day function that year, the local bishop had appreciated her honesty and presented her a gift.
But that gift or the honest deed somehow could not prevent a tragedy in her family. Burdened with mounting debts, a sick wife and a blind and infirm 9-year-old son, her father Narayanan committed suicide, thus entrusting these special persons to her care.
