International Olympiad in Informatics (IOI) is an event that tests the basic IT skills of participants from around the world.  In this year’s competition held at Nowy Sacz, Poland, Arnold Joseph Norohna, a youngster from Kochi made the country proud by winning the bronze medal.

Arnold, a 1st year B.Sc.student of Chennai Mathematical Institute, Chennai overcame stiff competition from nearly 5000 students to reach the Indian National Olympiad in Informatics (INOI) round.  He was one of the 4 students from India selected for the international event.

“The competition tests the basic IT skills, such as problem analysis, programming and testing.  Tasks are mainly algorithmic in nature.  The participants are marked according to the output in programming,” he says.

Unlike his friends, he did not want to pursue a course in engineering.  He knew from the beginning that maths and computer science are his favourite subjects.  And so at the Chennai Mathematical Institute, he is enjoying every moment thanks to the interesting classes taken by experts in maths and computer science.
