Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Sala may not have any branch outside India.  But patients who have undergone treatment at the hallowed institute could be found in most countries around the world.  And Dr.P.K.Warrier, who has been its Managing Trustee close to 5 decades and Chief Physician for considerable number of years, can certainly be regarded as a world healer.

Born in 1921, Warrier underwent basic education at Rajas High School, Kottakkal and Samuthiri College, Kozhikode, before joining Ayurveda studies.  Although he quit college for a short period at the height of Indian independence struggle, he soon completed the course and joined Arya Vaidya Sala founded by his uncle Vaidyaratnam P.S.Warrier.

His initial years at the Vaidya Sala were under the guidance of his elder brother P.M.Warrier who was the Managing Trustee then.  When P.M.Warrier died in a plane crash in 1953, the mantle of Managing Trustee fell on his relatively young shoulders.

Under his leadership Kottakkal Arya Vaidya Salai and Ayurveda rose to greater and greater heights.  A charitable hospital that treats 1300 patients free everyday, treatment through correspondence, research on medicinal plants and their cultivation etc make the vision of the century-old Vaidya Sala broad.

A connoisseur and patron of drama, kathakali and literature, Dr.Warrier’s special contribution to Ayurveda has been the readiness to adopt the ancient healing system to the contemporary age without sacrificing on the basics.

Many are the patients who have benefited from his treatment.  Some of them include Presidents of India, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, Governors, musicians, artists and ordinary people.  And many are the honours that have come his way.  Notable among them are Padmasree, D.Litt of Calicut University, Maharshi award of All India Ayurveda Congress, doctorate from Medicine Alternatives, Copenhagen etc.
