Retired PWD Executive Engineer N.K.Muhammed has an eye for choosing the right spot for his construction activities.  Or else he wouldn’t have started the Oriental School of Hotel Management in enchantingly beautiful Lakkidi, Wynad.  An even more breathtaking locale has been chosen by him to locate the first major heritage resort of Malabar Area, Kadavu, overlooking the Chaliyar river and a small island.

After retirement, Muhammed wanted to contribute to nation-building in his own way.  At that time, not many had realized the potential of tourism in Kerala.  It was in this backdrop that he started the institute of hotel management in 1995.  Now students from even foreign countries come to study here.  And the major reason for their choice is its good placement record.  According to him, not even one student had to face unemployment.

Later he started dreaming of a tourist resort.  During a flight, he had seen a beautiful small island near Ramanattukara, Kozhikkode.  On enquiry it was found that not even a road connected to the island.  When he went there by country boat, he at once noticed the hill on the other side of the river.  He calculated that the view of the island would be more spectacular from the top of the hill.  The people of the area wondered at the folly of the man when he purchased 10 acres of land there.

They would have been even more flabbergasted when he constructed 80-roomed resort with 5 star facilities at the Kadavu.  And true enough, the resort was a loss in the initial years.  Many well wishers and even his family suggested that he dispose off the burden.  But Muhammed had a dream that the good days would come.

Today that dream has been fulfilled with the resort doing brisk business.  As a satisfied Australian tourist remarked, "I had come to Kerala to see God’s own country.  After coming to Kadavu I could see God’s own home also!”

His brother Ibrahimkutty, a noted businessman in Indonesia, provides him business inputs while wife Dr.Aysha provides the moral support.  His children Dr.Thesnin, Dr.Safreena and Vinne too support him in his dreams.
