As a young man who had joined an MBA course in Chennai after graduation, he wanted to effectively utilize his spare time, and so joined  a computer education programme.  Soon MBA was forgotten as Nandakumar was bitten by the computer bug.  He completed the computer course and joined HCL in 1984.

When invited by Keltron, he joined that firm in 1985, but left it in 1990 to start his own venture, ‘Suntec’.  As a newbie in the field of software solutions, no one noticed it.  However, after it did a subcontract for the telephone billing software for Kerala Telecom, people started recognizing its presence.  Soon, the company replicated this solution in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and in 1994, the company handed over the solution to Department of Telecommunications (DOT), for use in their 200 centres to benefit 1 crore people.

After the success with DOT, the company started eyeing the international market.  They modified the software to include Transaction Business Management Solution (TBMS).  After a period of 1˝ years, the first international order came from Malaysia.  This success led to the company’s forays in the Asia-Pacific region.

In 1998, under an agreement with Logico, England, Suntec entered the market in the West.  By 2000, 15 companies in England were clients of the company.  With the help of TBMS, the company made its presence felt in Europe and USA and soon after, opened their overseas offices in England, USA and Germany.

With an employee base of 260 professionals, the company caters to 80% network of BSNL, VSNL and MTNL in India.  Among their international clientele are Motorola England, Comcast USA, Bahrain Telecom Company, SNT Company, Netherlands etc.  The ICICI and ING Netherlands depend on Suntec for their banking bill software.

A CMM Level 5 accredited organization, they had come a long way from the annual turnover of Rs.75000 in 1990 to Rs.30 crores at present.
