22 years ago, when T.D.Ouseph decided to start a textile shop, ‘Immanuel Sarees’, at his village Mannumpetta near Amballoor in Thrissur District, many skeptics doubted the soundness of the venture.  “It would have been better to start it at Varantharappilli…” was one such comment.

But that did not deter Ouseph.  One who always feels the guidance of the Almighty, he went ahead with his undertaking, charging only nominal profits from the poor villagers for the good quality sarees that he sold.  Soon, the good word spread even without any advertisement and buyers started flocking to the shop.

As business grew, his son volunteered to help him.  With his help, textiles from Surat was brought without the meddling of middlemen.  By 1991 Immanuel was on an expansion plan.  They opened a whole sale unit at Thrissur.

Although he had educated his 4 sons to reach good position in life, they all ultimately decided to support him in the business.  His advice to them was this:  “There will be profit and loss in business.  But never squeeze the common man.”

Obeying the will of the father, the sons expanded the business.  Using their own printing unit at Surat they could produce customized sarees.  During last year the Immanuel registered a turnover of Rs.17 crores and employed a total of 2000 persons directly and indirectly.  The cooperation of the employees and the unity among the brothers are contributing to the success of the venture.

The original saree shop at Mannumpetta village is now operating in 10000 sq.ft. space.
