For his efforts at management of 4-crore strong crowd during the Kumbhakonam Festival, S.George, Central Zone Police I.G has been awarded special medal by the Chief Minster. 3 months earlier, he had been selected for the Malcom Adiseshayya award by the Central Ministry of Human Resource Development.  This is the 1st time that such an award is being given by the State Government

Although a mammoth crowd had gathered for the Festival, it could pass off peacefully without any untoward incident thanks to the efforts of George and his team. Though 93 persons were reported missing during the Mahamaham, they were traced within 2 days and reunited with their relatives. This has been recognised by the Government as an indication of the efficiency of George.

George, who is a 1984 cadre IPS officer, had earlier worked as SP of Salem and Vigilance. Later he was Joint Police Commissioner during the 2001 to 2003. He has also worked as North Zone IG as well as Joint Director of Vigilance.
