By returning currency notes worth Rs.25000 and a passport found in his vehicle to the owner, Martin of Pallikkandi, Kozhikode, an autorickshaw driver, has shown how honesty is always the best policy.

On Monday evening, Pankajakshi, wife of Madhavan Nair of Annassery, had been hit by a two-wheeler near Blue Diamond theatre at Mavoor Road.  While being taken to the hospital in Martin’s auto, Pankajakshi had left the cash and passport in the autorickshaw in her bewilderment.  The money had been meant for meeting the medical expenses of her husband, who was undergoing treatment in the same hospital.

Although relatives immediately informed the police, not much help could be obtained from that quarter.  And nobody had remembered the registration number of the auto.  However, by 11 o’clock at night, Martin had tracked down Pankajakshi and returned the valuables.
