After completing post graduation in Electronics and becoming a lecturer in Singapore, not many are likely to come back to India - at least very soon.  Martin did that and joined Philips at Chennai as an Engineer.  But resigning the job soon to pursue his interest in business, he came back to his native place at Thrissur.

Without depending on family business, taking an introduction from his elder brother, Martin rode to Thiruppur in Tamil Nadu on a motorbike to try his hand at business.

He joined as a supervisor in a banian-making factory.  Simultaneously he started his own business in 1992 with Rs.20000 given by his father.  If the initial order was for supply of 2500 T-shirts from Bangalore, next order for export of 9700 T-shirts came from Vienna.

The buyers from Vienna were soon impressed by the product sent by the ‘unknown’ supplier from Thiruppur.  They came to Thiruppur and entered into agreement with Martin for broadening the business.

That was the turning point.  His Page International soon started exporting to many countries in Europe.  Doing business with 26 world-class brands in 8 countries of Eurpope, Martin’s firm now employs 90 permanent staff and another 400 workers.

After obtaining from the Viennese company the rights to produce and market ‘Furore’ brand of cloths, he plunged into the domestic market, selling through network of shops and Business-to-Customer (B2C) website.

Soon after making its imprint in T-shirt arena, the company branched to gents, ladies and kids undergarments before going on to casual shirt-trouser field.  It did not take long for the company to create a ‘furore’ in all these fields, thanks to its quality control and European designs.  From the helm, Martin attributes professional management as the secret of the company’s success.

His wife Sarya, who looks after the kidwear part of the company, and Martin have 3 children: John, Linto and Noyal.
