When contractor Ibrahim Kutty decided to dig a pond 30m x 30m in his land, many tried to discourage him. Now the same pond serves the purpose of replenishing the ground water in the neighbourhood besides proving a direct source of water for the neighbours.

He had dug the pond in 3 stages using an excavator at a total cost of Rs.3 lakhs. With the cooperation of the people of the area, the construction went of smoothly. Even before providing side protection for the pond, the neighbours have started using it.

He is ready to hand over the pond to the Government. But on one condition – side protection has to be provided and piped water from the pond should be made available to the neighbourhood.

Ibrahim Kutty shows that water-literacy is about becoming sensitive to one's neighbour's plight.
