Perhaps it is not the laity alone who needs to be aware of the moral and theological planes of human urges like sex, suicidal tendency, justice etc.  The clergy too need to know them in a systematic and scientific manner.  Perhaps Father Felix Podimattam, who has authored 55 books on moral theology, fulfils this felt need.

Father Padimattam, who has taught in theological institutes in and outside Kerala for the last 33 years, wrote his 1st book on Natural Law in 1972.  St.Francis Theological College, Kottayam, Vijnana Nilayam, AP, Papal Seminary, Pune, St.Peter’s Pontifical Institute, Bangalore etc are some institutes, where he has taught.

About 20 of his books are on different facets of sex.  His studies are based on theological and scientific outlook with a touch of the modern.  Other fields covered by his pen include prayer, birth control, divorce, cloning, health ethics, medical ethics etc.  He is now working on the 2nd volume of his 55th book dealing with ‘Medical Ethics’.

Father Podimattam was born at Muttam near Thodopuzha in 1934.  Attracted to a life of prayer and spirituality, he joined priesthood in 1955.  He later obtained M.A in ‘Systematic Theology’ from Gregorian University, Rome and his doctorate in Moral Theology from Alphonsia University there. His post doctoral work was done at Washington, USA.

On coming back to India, he obtained a Master’s Degree in Political Science and wrote in many national and international journals.  He was the president of ‘Association of Moral Theologians of India’ during 1988-97.  Even at the age of 69, he goes on with the mission of writing and teaching.
