Without any advertisement, the lamp shades designed by Mariamma win prime space in the drawing rooms of connoisseurs and commoners.  It has even traveled across the seas to far off countries thanks to the quality and aesthetics that this woman entrepreneur has instilled into them.

13 years ago, she started ‘Classic Art Lamp’ as a small venture at Vazhappally, Changanassery.  As the home science graduate’s designs were liked by the buyers, more and more orders started coming her way.  Lamp shades, chandeliers, wall brackets, verandah lights, ceiling lights, yard lights, garden lights, gate light and pathway lights are sold in large numbers from Classic Art Lamp, whose showroom resembles a museum of lamps.  Marketing is usually by direct means, and the usual customers are hotels, houses and churches.

Her lamp design of film star Mammotty’s house fetched her 36 orders from USA.  Similarly, the beauty of the lamps at Araya Nivas at Thekkady even now fetches her orders from foreigners.

She considers quality as sacrosanct and gets raw materials for her work from even other states.  More than the profit, she is happy to utilize the talent in a creative manner, and to provide employment to a few.

During days when she isn’t on tour, she is actively present amongst the workers from 9 to 9.  And that way she has been able to develop a good relationship with the employees.

She emphasizes the support and cooperation of her husband Sunny in this venture.  The couple have 3 children: twins Rohan and Rahul are studying for engineering while younger Rohit is preparing to join engineering.
