It seems the judges for the Artistic item of the National Roller Skating Championship held recently at Kolkatta were wonderstruck by the performance of a 14-year-old Kerala girl Shamna Kasim, who mesmerized everyone by her fleeting Bharatanatyam performance on wheels and won the gold medal in her category.

Although many have won gold medal in skating at national level, performing Bharatanatyam in skating ring is rare.  But for Shamna, a class 10 student of St.Theresa’s Anglo Indian School, Kannur, who has been learning dance since her kindergarten days, it wasn’t all that difficult.

With poise and balance she performed a speedier footwork version of the dance, setting at rest the apprehensions of many a doubting Thomas.  And what adds further luster to her achievement is that she started learning roller-skating only 8 months ago.
