A modified and enhanced version of Go-Cart, the new addition to racing cars, has been developed by a team of students of Mechanical Engineering, College of Engineering, Thiruvananthapuram.

The Go-Cart developed by Abhiraj, Aravind Menon, Nanda Kishore, Nithin Nath, Raj Kumar and Silash can run not only on the racetracks but ordinary roads also.  And unlike in the racing models, their vehicle has good break system.  This enhanced security feature is made possible by using ‘double fishbone’ method, usually available only in expensive cars.  The students had developed a cost effective method to achieve this.

A 5HP engine with capacity 85 cc is used to run the Cart that weighs just 60 kg.  On the track it can accelerate from 0 to 40 km in 5 seconds.  Go-Cart rallys are becoming popular in Kochi and Kozhikode.  While ordinary Go-Carts cost around Rs.45,000 the one developed by the students can be made for Rs.18,000.

Among the guiding hands behind the project were Prof. Sisupalan of Mechanical Engineering, Jacob Tharakan of ‘Popular Engineering’ and a student of Electronics Engineering, Gopanand.
