After completing his M.Com from NSS College, Changanassery in 1964, V.R.Krishnan’s immediate aim was to become a lecturer.  That dream came true soon enough.  But after a few years he resigned the job and started off as a tax practitioner in Vatakara.  It did not take him long to become successful in this field also.

By a quirk of fate, the running of a grinding mill came into his hands in 1969.  He purchased the machinery for Rs. 1950 and started production with 3 employees.

At that time, people used to prepare curry powers at home.  But Krishnan understood the potential of manufacturing and marketing housewife-friendly curry powder.  Though the profits weren’t high, he kept on with the venture.

In 1970 he acquired one more mill and expanded the business.  Even then he continued the tax practice, which used to fetch more money than the curry power business.

In 1989 he made the bigger gamble and launched the major factory of Rani Food Products at Chorod, Vatakara.  It paid off and today it is a company with assets in crores, employing 150 workers.

His 4 sons are active in the affairs of the company.  Since the last 8 years the company’s products are exported to Gulf region, where it has a good demand.

Though he resigned the post of the lecturer long back, he hasn’t severed his ties with academic field.  In 1991, he founded the Vidya Prakash Public School at Thodannur, Vatakara and in 1997, the Rani Public School at Chorod.  This 1200-student, 50-teachers-school provides lunch for all the students and staff.  In fact it is compulsory that they have their lunch at the school itself.
